Club History

In November of 2021, our committee leaders presented on important events happening around the world. Some examples were the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, the COP26 conference, and the sexualization of women in the media.

In November of 2021, we participate in "Cards for Cole" to create birthday cards for a boy diagnosed with Leukemia, in our community.

In October of 2021, the club walked in the Homecoming parade for the first time!

In October of 2021, we had the DGN Sign-Language Club teach us some words and phrases and talk about the importance of communication in the deaf community.

In October of 2021, we participated in the school-wide "No One Walks Alone" challenge to support those with cancer.

In October of 2021, the DGN Eating Disorder Initiative educated us on the intersection of empowerment and eating disorders.

In September of 2021 for our intersectionality theme, we learned about Frida Kahlo. The organizer of the "Timeless" exhibit at COD presented Kahlo's story and then we made her signature flower crowns with the Art Club.

In June of 2021, we helped clean up our community after a destructive tornado.

In April of 2021, we visited the Mobile Museum of Tolerance bus while it was on campus.

In March of 2021, we decorated pantry packs for those in need.

In February of 2021, the DGN Black Student Union and Latino Student Union presented on how to be an ally.

In January of 2021, we presented on the internment camps in China and the farmer protests in India at our meeting.

In December of 2020, the sustainability and equality committees teamed up to create an awesome resource on environmental justice.

In December of 2020, the club helped spread the word about a holiday food drive for local food pantries and the humane society.

In December of 2020, Circuit Court Judge Ann Celine Walsh spoke to club members about her path to where she is now.

In November of 2020, a club member created a sustainability bingo for members to participate in (virtually).

In October of 2020, the Sustainability Committee took part in a REAP (Restore, Educate, and Preserve) volunteer workday at the the Belmont prairie.

In October of 2020, we Stomped out the Wildfires with a week-long walkathon. The club walked over 2,000 miles and raised $1,783 to help those affected by the wildfires in California.

In June of 2020, we attended the Say Their Names protest to support the Black Lives Matter movement.

In June of 2020, we wrote positive messages on the chalk outside of DGN to support the Say Their Names protest.

In January of 2020, we attended the Women's March in Chicago along with members of DGN Women in STEM club.

In September of 2019, members of our club got certified in Stop the Bleed.

In September of 2019, we hosted a meeting to create postcards for elementary schools in El Paso, Texas, that had been affected by the recent mass shootings.

In July of 2019, we attended a climate forum.

In July of 2019, we went out to Fishel Park for DGPW's co-sponsored Lights for Liberty event to protest child separation at the border.

In June of 2019, we traveled to the city of Chicago's Pride Parade.

In April of 2019, the DG March For Our Lives chapter was officially created and our first rally took place at Fishel Park.

In March of 2019, we came out to support DGN seniors walking to vote.

In late 2018, Claire Gorey, Gwen Casten, Libby Soelberg, Emma Cho, and Allie Emmet began the DGN Empowerment Club with Mrs. Spahr-Tomas and Ms. Tomek.
