COVID-19 Case Identification

The following COVID-19 procedures have been established with the guidance of the CDC, IDPH, ISBE, and WCHD:

UNKNOWN ILLNESS PROCEDURES

• UPDATED DUE TO IDPH GUIDANCE (August 12): Parents/guardians must keep all sick students at home. If a child becomes ill and must be sent home, they may not return to school for ten calendar days unless they have been tested for COVID-19 (or receive an alternative positive diagnosis) and are symptom-free without the use of medication for 24 hours. All siblings in the district must also be sent home and must remain home until a negative diagnosis on the ill child is provided. Anyone in close contact with a positive case must remain home for 14 days from last exposure to the person, even if they do not develop symptoms.

• We recognize that students may have chronic conditions that cause COVID-19 symptoms, such as seasonal allergies. In these cases, parents/guardians are required to provide a note from their child's physician listing the chronic condition and associated symptoms. These students are still required to complete the self-certification including a daily temperature check.

• Parents will be required to self-certify the wellness of their children each day of school - Students must be free of:

  • • Fever (over 100.4°F)

    • Cough

    • Nasal congestion

    • Vomiting

    • Diarrhea

    • Headache

    • Fatigue

    • Poor appetite

    • Muscle pain

    • Loss of smell/taste

    • Known close contact with a person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19

• Office staff will be expected to obtain specific information about illness from parents/guardians when absences are being reported. Information will be recorded and shared with school nurses and/or appropriate personnel. Families that have medically fragile and immunocompromised students must consult their medical provider prior to attending school.

COVID-19 PROCEDURES (FLOW CHART)

• If a student has tested positive for COVID-19, the district will report the case to the Will County Health Department and follow their guidance.

• Students and staff who were in close proximity of the student (defined as less than 6 feet apart without a mask for 15 minutes or more) must self-quarantine for 14 days from last exposure or may return after receiving a negative COVID-19 test result. Families in the classroom will be notified if there is a positive case in the classroom.
