Device Agreement

Channahon School District 17 1:1 Device Agreement

  1. Introduction: Each student in CSD17 will be issued a district owned device beginning in the 2017-18 school year. Students in grades 5-8 will bring these devices (Dell Chromebook) home every night to aid in school work outside of the classroom. These students will also receive a padded backpack for carrying the device along with other items needed for school.
  2. Student Responsibility: It is the responsibility of the student to have his/her Chromebook charged and ready to use at school on a daily basis. It is also the responsibility of the student to maintain the physical condition of the device. Any damage not deemed to be normal wear and tear will be repaired at the cost of the family. The district will make every effort to repair devices on site by district staff to prevent labor fees.
  3. Loaner Devices: The LRC in each school will have extra Chromebooks that can be checked out by students on an as-needed basis. Priority will be given to students with devices needing repair before students who came to school with a low battery. These checkouts will be one day only unless the repair will take longer.
  4. At Home Use: The device is expected to be used at home by the student it is assigned to for learning purposes. All internet traffic to and from the device will be sent through CSD17 content filters. Appropriate use of the device is expected when not on school grounds.
  5. Ownership: Devices will remain the property of CSD17. Any devices unreturned when a student is unenrolled from the district, will be subject to replacement fees. Students may elect to purchase the Chromebook from CSD17 upon graduation for a reduced fee to be determined at the conclusion of each school year. Once purchased by a student, the district filters and safegaurds will no longer be active
  6. Community WiFi Partnership: Some businesses in the community have agreed to allow student use of WiFi with no purchase necessary. It is expected that CSD17 students respect the place of business and conduct themselves appropriately. You can find an updated map of participating locations at: bit.ly/CSD17wifi
