What do I do if my child does not understand something on their homework?

If your child does their best and he or she can not figure out what to do on some part of the homework, please assist them if you can. However, if you can not decide if you know what to do as well, then simply return the homework to school and let me know via a note that your child needs additional help. I will help them on that day. I am always here to help.

What do I do if my child is having a challenge with weekly Spelling words?

Spelling words can be a challenge to remember. Finding fun ways to practice them can make it easier for your child to remember them. I try to provide some helpful tips on each week's list. Your child probably has some of their own. Try them out and see what works best for both of you.

What do I do if my child is having a challenge getting projects or assignments completely by the due date?

Due dates and deadlines are a skill that is learned from early on. By helping build on this skill now, it will become second nature later on. To help with deadlines, schedules or calendars can be useful. Having your child set the schedule to pace out projects makes them feel more in charge and more willing to work on them. Having a calendar with posted dates on them can also help them track how much they have done and how much time they have left.

What do I do if my child is putting off homework until late in the night?

Watch out for last minute work. I have encouraged all my students to do homework A.S.A.P. when they get home. It is easy to put homework off, but it stresses out everyone if it is the last thing to be done for the day. Setting Keep in mind, your child wants to do their best and show you what they can do, but sometimes they need a little guidance to get things started. up a routine time for homework can really make all your lives less stressful. Having a special time to do what your child wants with you as a reward can also make homework time an okay topic for them and you, too!
