Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, also referred to as PBIS, is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school-wide, and classroom behavior support systems. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. You may be familiar with PBIS from your student's experience at the elementary school. At the middle and high school level, we strive to create positive behaviors by developing PRIDE in both the students and staff. PRIDE stands for Proactivity, Resilience, Integrity, Diligence and Empathy. PBIS promotes positive behaviors and in turn creates classrooms where teachers can teach and students can learn. Please take a look at the resources below to learn more about PBIS and how you can promote PRIDE at home and in the community .

The Framework

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate a school's data, systems, and practices that affect student outcomes every day. PBIS creates schools where all students succeed.

TIER 1

Tier 1 practices and systems establish a foundation of regular, proactive support while preventing unwanted behaviors. Schools provide these universal supports to all students, school-wide.

TIER 2

Tier 2 practices and systems support students who are at risk for developing more serious problem behaviors before those behaviors start. These supports help students develop the skills they need to benefit from core programs at the school.

TIER 3

At Tier 3, students receive more intensive, individualized support to improve their behavioral and academic outcomes. At this level, schools rely on formal assessments to determine a student’s need.
