Go over the module Skill: How to format academic papers if you did not attend the lecture on Week 8.
In this assignment you will learn a little bit about LaTeX and create a document that uses the format of a conference in your area of research interest.
Step 1: Create an Overleaf account, if you do not already have one
Step 2: Complete the Learn LaTeX in 30 minutes tutorial
Step 3: Identify the venue (conference or journal) in which the paper you read for earlier assignments was published. Search for the most recent formatting instructions and find a LaTeX, or better, Overleaf template for formatting. Create a copy of the template in your account. Rename things and clean up as needed.
Step 4: Next, you will reformat your "personal statement" or "statement of purpose" from Assignment 7 in this document. Here are a few thing s you can start with:
Add a title and author.
Remove the abstract and add a few section headings, like "Research Interests", "Prior Research Experiences", "Qualities for Success" (feel free to rename these and/or add other sections).
If it doesn't already, edit your statement such that it references the academic paper you read in this class. This will allow you to practice adding the paper to a BibTeX file and citing it from text.
Step 5: Use this opportunity to improve your statement and to practice any additional LaTeX commands you learned about.
Important: Besides the specific skill you are practicing in this assignment, you should also think of it as practicing the skill of learning things on your own (Week 6). You will likely encounter situations where things are not immediately clear or do not work as intended the first time you try it. Please refrain from immediately asking the TAs for help. Instead, try searching for the solution on your own.
This assignment is due on November 27, 2023 Monday 11:59pm. Submit a link to your Overleaf document on GradeScope here. Be sure you have the permissions set up so the instructors can access it.
