Format: In-person (recommended), hybrid option
This workshop is part of an interdisciplinary and transatlantic collaboration between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA) and the University of Tübingen (Germany). The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers from the fields of computer science and the humanities to discuss interdisciplinary perspectives of aligning AI with society and to come into conversation about each other's research.
We will consider questions such as the following:
What does “AI alignment” mean to different disciplines, especially those in the humanities and computer science?
Where are the parallels and differences in approaching AI alignment between disciplines?
Where do goals for technical optimization clash with societal values?
How do disciplines prioritize competing objectives in AI development?
What are common challenges with regard to AI, with special focus on methods, vocabulary, experiences, practice, and theories?
What are productive starting points for joint research areas?
How can AI systems support research in the humanities? Which challenges appear?
How can computer science and ethics benefit from working together?
The collaboration is supported by the Seed Funding for Collaborative Projects.
