Astrogazers in partnership with University of Bath successfully launched 2
weather balloons to the edge of space! They gathered video footage of the
ascent and descent as well as obtaining data onboard the datalogger. The
impact of Mission Aspiration has rippled through the wider school
community and has led to a pupil from the junior school building and
launching their own model rocket.
Our playlist provides a guide on how to launch a weather balloon in the UK
Testing the change in materials' properties after being sent into low stratosphere (~32,000m) via weather balloon in Autumn 2023
▪ Our aim was to gather data about materials sent up to the stratosphere and deduce the effect of high-altitude conditions.
▪ We measured changes in the spring constant, Young’s modulus, and ultimate tensile strength.
▪ Two high-altitude weather balloons and payloads were launched (Bell-Burnell and Sharman) in September 2023 within 2 hours of each other.
