The origin of Made To Thrive started back in 2018 when the Indy Innovation Team started dreaming, "What if we could create a conversation about knowing Jesus that would resonate with the heart of students in Generation Z?".
After looking at studies from Barna and other sources, we conducted our own research and spent hours looking at what the Bible has to say about the good news of Jesus — how did Jesus talk about faith? What about the apostles? The prophets in the Old Testament?
Then we developed an initial prototype to test with students and Cru staff members. We continued to change, tweak and update both the text and the visuals as we received input from students, Cru staff members and others in the body of Christ.
In 2019, we connected with Ben Bennett of Josh McDowell Ministry who was also working on a way to talk about Jesus with this generation of students. We collaborated on the language and content and also worked with Daniel Du, a gifted artist who worked with Cru in the city during that season. He designed the panorama below to punctuate and visually communicate the message of the what was written.
In the fall of 2020 an accordian fold booklet was published and distributed and continues to be available through the Cru store. We continued to receive valuable feedback about the printed prototype and in 2022, began work on an annotated digital version that could be more easily used and would contain additional content that unpacks more of the biblical foundations of the good news about Jesus.
