The majority of Greeks self-identify as Orthodox Christians. However, this title is not based on a personal relationship with God or church attendance but part of their identity as being Greek. You can trace thousands of years of church history and the Greek Orthodox church to find how religion preserved the greek language, culture and existence from its inception and through the 400+ years of Ottoman occupation and muslim rule.
For the average modern Greek, it doesn't matter if he or she believes in God or not, it is very unlikely that they would deny their Christian Religion. In addition, many Greek communities have been fixated on magic and superstition for many centuries and often people go to church and be part of various Greek orthodox rituals in order to keep grudges away (the evil eye).
Despite these historic realities, the emerging generation of Greeks are very apathetic towards religion. In addition to secularisation, the Greek orthodox church has become more politicised and criticised for its involvement in real estate, the embezzlement of money and moral scandal which has kept many away from the church.
