Belgium is an incredibly important and strategic country within the European Union even though small geographically and in overall numbers of population. The capital city of Brussels is also the headquarters of the EU where so many of the important decisions are made that effect Europe and the entire world. It is a country that is increasingly making its mark on the business world of Europe and beyond. In recent years, more and more tourists are discovering the many gems located in both the French and Flemish sectors of the country.
Belgium is a country that has two main languages – Flemish (Dutch) and French, with a much smaller group of German speakers in the eastern region. One commonality within this diversity is the predominance of the Catholic religion in all regions. Today the day-to-day influence and impact of Catholicism is not felt so much in the lives of the people. Rather, most Belgians today would identify as atheists or have no religious interest at all.
Perhaps in light of the above, Belgium is one of the few countries in Europe where Agape (Campus Crusade for Christ/Cru in Europe) has never been able to launch and firmly establish long term ministry! However, the sad reality to this fact is that today young people are in fact very open and eager to check out anything which corresponds to truth and reality.
We have need of campus workers to come and serve in the world class universities of Belgium…or working among leaders in the business and professional realm…or among the many high school students looking for direction and meaning...or among the many athletes that come out of Belgium onto the world scene? Prayerfully consider investing your life – short term, long term, or via intercessory prayer – in this strategic country of Belgium!
Receiving Needs
Short term team for projects or specific tasks:
Short term teams, 1-2 week spring projects, 4 week summer projects, opening to other creative opportunities
Long term team to serve in your country:
We would eventually desire to see long term teams on each of the major campuses listed above. The most key campuses to have staff teams would be Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven, Louvain, Liege, and Mons.
