Title I is a compensatory education program supported by funds from the Department of Education through the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The purpose of the Title I program is to enable all schools, both public and non-public, to provide opportunities for the children served to acquire the knowledge and the skills outlined in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s content standards and to meet the state performance standards developed for all children.
Students are recommended for additional help in the area of reading through assessments, teacher input and parent request. Staff from our Title I program provide supplemental reading instruction to students on a regular basis. Supplementary materials from our core resources (Reading Horizons and Wonders) as well as other evidence based resources are used during instruction. Students may receive instruction in a pull out or a push in model. We will focus our instruction on the five pillars of reading - phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. In addition, activities and workshops for parents and families are provided throughout the school year.
