6th Grade Reading Expectations

  • Get the book approved by the teacher. Teacher will check “TC”.

  • Read 20-30 minutes each night. Read 1 book at a time. It should be brought to and from school each day. This is the book you read during IDR time.

  • Create an individualized reading goal each marking period. This should increase by 100 pages each marking period.

  • Showcase thoughts, ideas and reactions on the stop and jot wall. Use a variety of the codes, do not make them all the same.

  • You should have at least 1 reaction per chapter. Always react after each reading session.

  • You can count 1 graphic novel towards your goal for the whole year. Indicate that under genre.

  • You must turn in your stop and jots as you finish the book, not all of them at once at the end.

  • Once you turn them in, they will be returned to you. Record the number of pages read in your log and check off “SC.” Place the stop and jots back into your IDR folder.

  • Parents will sign your goal each marking period.
