Welcome to
Sixth Grade!
Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Mr. Silvers and I am extremely excited to have you join me on an amazing adventure this year. During this new experience, it will consistently be my goal to make this school year as engaging, fun-filled, and memorable as ever. Whether we are in the classroom or on the computer, we will continue to grow both academically and personally. I strongly believe in having a classroom that feels safe and comfortable, and I cannot wait to have you join me in making that happen!
Students should be ready to learn many new things in sixth grade, and it will be my job to make that learning fun! In math, we step away from the Bridges program and go back to our roots to prepare for middle school math. In language arts we read through different "Collections" that explore concepts like phobias, animals, disasters, and more! Science is packed with activities used to investigate variables, electromagnetic force, and space. Lastly, social studies will take us back in time as we explore ancient civilizations.
Now, a little bit more about myself. Though many people know me as Mr. Silvers, some families and students might also know me as Mr. Dan from camp. I spent eleven years as a counselor and co-director of Phoenix Camp in Feasterville. This will be my fourth year in sixth grade at Hillcrest. When I am not teaching, I love playing and watching all sports, especially Philadelphia teams and the Florida Gators. I still play on a softball team, and I even play basketball with Mr. Crowley. When I am not watching sports, I like to read, exercise, and play any and all types of games. Be ready for a lot of friendly competition in the classroom!
I hope that this year will be as "normal" as possible, but know that we will make the most of it, and you will look back and say that this year was one of the best years you have ever had. Enjoy what is left of your summer, and keep doing the things and hanging out with the people that make you happy. Be ready to share some of your amazing summer memories with us when we meet on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 3rd. I can’t wait to start growing our classroom community, and I look forward to seeing what this year brings!
See you soon,
Mr. Silvers
