Dear Fifth Graders,

I hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful summer break and are getting ready for the adventure of fifth grade. I am excited about getting to know all of you and sharing this year with you! We are going to learn so many new things and have such a wonderful year together! I am really looking forward to building a classroom community together as we will be a school family all year. I am looking forward to learning more about all of you as people and learners. If you have any questions or things you want to tell me about yourself before we meet in person, please send me an email at dcicchiello@crsd.org.  Also, feel free to stop in to visit the classroom during the meet and greet on Thursday, August 28 between 10:30 - 11:15.  You can tour the room, find your desk, and drop off any supplies you may already have.

One final thought before I let you return to your summer. In my reading about fifth grade, I found a motto that I love: FIFTH GRADE AND FEARLESS. By fearless I don’t mean never being nervous or unsure because everyone feels nervous or unsure at one point or another (including teachers). What I do mean is in our classroom we will work on being willing to take some risks. Risk asking the question you are thinking, risk answering a question even if you are not sure you are correct, risk trying something new. Although sometimes it is scary and sometimes it may fail, more often it is AMAZING. As a class we will celebrate risk taking and learn from mistakes (ask me about my famous Monday morning mistakes on the first day of school). So, enjoy the last weeks of summer break and start revving your mind up for the school year ahead. See you soon!
