Students in Kindergarten – Grade 2 will use Reading Horizons Discovery in their daily ELA instruction. Anchored in the science of reading, this reading program offers a hands-on explicit approach to teaching students how to read and write. This foundational literacy program focuses on phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency.
Students will:
· Use sounds in words
· Read and write using spelling patterns
· Work with printed text and books
· Practice most common words
· Read fluently
Students in grades 1-5 will use Wonders in their daily ELA instruction. Wonders is an evidence-based ELA program that is aligned to PA Core Standards. It offers daily opportunities for students to engage with authentic literature, participate in collaborative conversations, and write. Your child’s teacher will use a gradual release of responsibility learning approach.
Students will:
· Engage in close reading of complex text and find text evidence
· Become proficient in academic writing
· Take part in daily academic conversations with peers
· Develop ownership of their own learning
On-going assessment occurs to aid your child in experiencing success in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and researching.
