The goal of using the Zones of Regulation is to help us self-regulate. If we can name our feelings and recognize when our body is moving from one zone to the next we are then able to manage and use tools to bring us back into the green zone. All zones are expected feelings, it is how you react to those feelings that is important. I tell the kids it is ok to feel mad, but it isn't ok to say mean things or hurt others.

Red Zone

The Red Zone is used to describe extremely heightened states of alertness and intense emotions. A person may be elated or experiencing anger, rage, devastation or terror in the Red Zone.

Yellow Zone

The Yellow Zone is also used to describe a heightened state of alertness and elevated emotions, however, one has more control when they are in the Yellow
Zone.
A person may be experiencing stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, the wiggles, or nervousness while in the Yellow Zone.

Green Zone

The Green Zone is used to describe a calm state of alertness. A person may be described as happy, focused, content, or ready to learn when in the Green Zone. This is the zone where optimal learning takes place and where you are expected to be the majority of the time.

Blue Zone

The Blue Zone is used to describe low states of alertness and down feelings suck as when someone is feeling sad, tired, sick, or bored.
