Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Erin Emro and this will be my 20th year in the teaching profession. I love being a teacher and have a passion for working with children! Every year brings fresh excitement, and each child offers a unique opportunity for growth and discovery!
I have taught in various roles over the years and am absolutely thrilled to be back in a Multi-Grades 2/3 Homeroom! I started my career as a Grades 1-5 Music Specialist at a private school in Calgary. I then joined the Rocky View School District where I began as a Guest Teacher, covering several long term absences. I soon had the pleasure of joining Westbrook School, just north of Cochrane, as a Multi-Grades 2/3 Homeroom teacher. I spent four wonderful years there before making the permanent move to Banff. With Canadian Rockies Public Schools, I have taught in many roles at several schools, finally having the pleasure to teach in my home community. At BES I have taught in both Multi-Grades and Single Grade Homerooms. All this to say that I have a wide range of experience that enriches my teaching practice and enhances my ability to connect with my students.
On a more personal note, my husband, Peter and I have lived in Banff for more than 12 years. He was born and raised here. I was born in Regina, SK and raised in Calgary. We love being outside, especially hiking, biking and skiing! We also love playing music together, reading, travelling and spending time with family and friends. We've even recently become grandparents! Life wouldn’t be complete without our 8 year old kitty, Trotwood (we call him Trotty for short-we got the name from our favourite Dickens novel). I am also actively involved in the Valley Winds Music Association where I get to play my flute in an adult concert band on a weekly basis and connect with other musicians in the Bow Valley.
Music has always been a big part of my life. I began learning to play the flute when I was 10 years old and never looked back! I received my ARCT certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Calgary. I then went on to pursue my dream of becoming an educator and received my Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario. I play flute and piccolo with the Valley Winds Concert Band and dabble in guitar and other instruments.
I am dedicated to making our classroom a safe and caring space, a place where taking risks, making mistakes and being creative are encouraged and celebrated! I believe learning together is a delightful adventure that is sometimes messy, but always fun! My goal is that your child will love learning as much as I do in the time we have together. Thank you for entrusting me with your child this year! I look forward to collaborating with you, as it truly "takes a village" to foster growth and success!
