If you are struggling to pay rent:
See resources for rental & utility assistance below- these have key deadlines coming soon you must be aware of:
Currently, Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) is offering up to $2,000 towards utilities if they are at risk of disconnection due to COVID-19. The deadline for this is November 20. These monies will retro back. Here is where people would apply. https://www.iowafinance.com/iowa-residential-utility-disruption-prevention-program/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iowafinance.com%2Fiowa-residential-utility-disruption-prevention-program%2F&data=04%7C01%7Ckmackey%40sioux-city.org%7C8d05fa8a531f46c34a1d08d880d73a6c%7C562abf65a36e4ddfb0ca442369ad057b%7C0%7C0%7C637401010194924408%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=MWZdRtZqzu2KJ5lm1NAZ%2Bnhg5XVyw67%2BJLaGbClUAN0%3D&reserved=0>. It’s important to note that this money will NOT impact a household’s ability to apply for LIHEAP which started on November 1 and runs until April 30.Also, funds have been allocated to help renters and mortgage owners with their payments to avoid eviction/foreclosure. This money will also retro. The max for renters is $3,200 (up to 4 months of payments) and $3,600 (up to 2 months of payments). IFA has let us know that the deadline for applications on this will be December 4. This way IFA can process all the applications before December 30. Here is where people would apply. https://www.iowafinance.com/covid-19-iowa-eviction-and-foreclosure-prevention-program/<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iowafinance.com%2Fcovid-19-iowa-eviction-and-foreclosure-prevention-program%2F&data=04%7C01%7Ckmackey%40sioux-city.org%7C8d05fa8a531f46c34a1d08d880d73a6c%7C562abf65a36e4ddfb0ca442369ad057b%7C0%7C0%7C637401010194924408%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=GixTSf4CTrJ7Xm6M50IMOdUxp%2BKKBFXiFt9nf%2FIgZ3A%3D&reserved=0>
We cannot stress enough that people must meet these deadlines.
The CDC has ordered a temporarily halt in residential evictions (not including foreclosures on home mortgages) to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. Under the CDC’s order you must provide a copy of this declaration to your landlord, owner of the residential property where you live, or other person who has a right to have you evicted or removed from where you live.
