Linn County Residents Encouraged to Complete Needs Assessment Questionnaire
LINN COUNTY, IA – September 21, 2020 – Linn County residents impacted by the derecho are encouraged to complete the needs assessment questionnaire developed by community agencies including Linn County Public Health, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, HACAP, Waypoint, and other community partners. The information collected in this questionnaire will be used to identify needs that still exist following the derecho and may be shared with partner agencies in order to allocate resources. Help can include disaster case management. The questionnaire can be completed online at https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/db87ccf448234339b4de03af4dd36827. Anyone without internet access can call 319-892-6070 for help completing the questionnaire.This questionnaire is similar to the one provided by the cities of Cedar Rapids and Marion in the days following the derecho. A question has been added to assess the needs of rural residents. “We know that the needs of rural residents can be different from those who live in cities,” said RaeAnn Gordon, director of the ISU Extension and Outreach for Linn County. “This questionnaire will help ISU Extension and Outreach staff and our county partners identify needs of the rural community in the post-disaster recovery process.” However, the questionnaire is not limited to rural Linn County residents. Any Linn County resident can submit their responses. A network of community organizations, known as My Care Community, are working together to help meet the various needs of residents during this time of recovery. A member of the My Care Community will contact people who request help and who include their contact information.“We know derecho recovery needs still exist in our community,” said Kaitlin Emrich, assessment and health promotion supervisor with Linn County Public Health and member of the My Care Community network. “In the immediate aftermath of the storm, people didn’t always know what kind of help they needed, and they are now becoming aware of their longer-term needs. This questionnaire will help identify those needs and help our partner agencies allocate appropriate resources to help meet those needs.”For further assistance with non-emergency derecho needs:· Call Waypoint at 319-366-7999 to request assistance with housing, household damage, or debris cleanup needs.· Call HACAP at 319-739-0056 for other derecho recovery needs.Food & Supplies

THE IOWA INDIVIDUAL DISASTER ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM (IIAGP)
IIAGP offers grants to families whose household’s annual income is at 200% or less of the federal poverty level. Each qualifying household MAY receive up to $5,000.00. The IIAGP is activated when the Governor issues a disaster proclamation turning on IIAGP for the affected counties. Please note - if a presidential disaster declaration for Individual Assistance is issued for a county for the same event, the state program is automatically canceled for that county, as the federal program then goes into effect. The federal program does not have an income restriction.
The application may be downloaded by clicking on Iowa Disaster Assistance Application (Español). Applications can be turned in to a local Community Action Agency, go to www.iowacommunityaction.org to find your local agency. For the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Grant program information call toll-free 1-877-347-5678.
IOWA DISASTER CASE MANAGEMENT
Disaster Case Management is a time limited resource and process that involves a partnership between a disaster case manager and a household impacted by a disaster to develop and carry out a Disaster Recovery Plan. This partnership provides the client with a single point of contact to facilitate access to a broad range of resources, promoting sustainable assistance for individual’s and a household’s recovery. These services are client focused, and provided in a manner consistent with standards for trauma-informed practice in human services.

Foundation 2 Derecho Resources
-The Cedar Rapids Mobile Vet Center will be setting up in the VA Cedar Rapids Community Based Outpatient Clinic parking lot at 2230 Wiley Blvd SW on Tuesday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 19 from 8am-4pm. A Licensed Clinical Counselor will be on board to provide Counseling services for the Cedar Rapids Community on a walk up basis, first come first served and an Outreach staff will be available to provide informational services and resources. COVID-19 protocol will be strictly followed. The Cedar Rapids Vet Center at 4250 River Center Court NE, Cedar Rapids, is open for Counseling services for all Combat Veterans. 1-319-378-0016.

There are three ways you can sign up to find volunteer opportunities.
1. Sign up in-person at Linn County Emergency Management, located at 6301 Kirkwood Blvd SW. They are open from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
2. Sign up to volunteer or request help online at uweci.org/volunteernow.
3. Call to volunteer-- or request volunteer help-- by calling 224-406-1366.
If a nonprofit needs volunteer assistance, use the above information as well.

Due to overwhelming community donation response, United Way, the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, Marion Chamber Foundation, and the Red Cross are asking those wishing to donate to consider donating financially to established relief funds. Donations can be made on the following websites:
