Identification

High Potential Learners are identified so that appropriate learning experiences can be designed to develop an optimal match between learners’ strengths and abilities. This process begins with observing student characteristics and behaviors. High potential consists of an interaction of three basic clusters of human traits: (1) high intellectual ability, (2) high creativity ability, and (3) high task commitment (Renzulli).

Students may be eligible for the Enrichment Program based on the following criteria:

Achievement (Intellectual Ability)

A student must meet both of the following:

  • Score above grade level on the Teachers College Reading Assessment
  • Mastery of 90% of ELA and Math standards

A student must also meet one of the following:

  • At least 90 percent NWEA scores in Reading and 85 percent in Math
  • Score Advanced/High Proficient on the MAP in Reading and Math

Creative/Reasoning (Creative Ability)

  • SAGES for reasoning/creativity assessment

The SAGES-2 reasoning subtest is a nationally-normed assessment that helps identify high potential student in aptitude.

Motivation (Task Commitment)

  • Teacher recommendation
