CROSSROADS CHARTER SCHOOLS ACCEPTABLE TECHNOLOGY USE POLICY (2017-2018)

As a part of schoolwork, the school gives students the use of technological devices. Expectations for behavior and language on technology devices are to follow the same rules as the classroom and in the school.

Students will:

1. Use the devices only to do school work, and not for any other reason. Not store material that is not related to schoolwork.

2. Use the Internet only with my teacher's permission.

3. Keep password private and not ask for or use anyone else’s password.

4. Not put address or telephone number, last name, or any other personal information about self or anyone else online.

5. Only upload, link, or embed an image of self or others with teacher’s permission.

6. Only download items with teacher’s permission.

7. Only play games that a teacher has approved.

8. Be polite and considerate when using the device; Will not use it to annoy, be mean to, frighten, threaten, tease, bully, or poke fun at anyone and will not use swear words or any other rude language.

9. Not try to see, send, or upload anything that says and/or shows bad or mean things about anyone's race, religion or sex.

10. Take care of the device. Fees will incur for any device purposefully damaged or lost and student will not be given access to another device until the replacement fee has been paid in full. The fee will be dependent on the cost of the damage.

11. Give credit for any images, videos, audio files, or ideas taken from others and will ask permission when necessary.

12. Not block or interfere with school or school system communications.

13. Understand that the teacher may look at work to be sure that rules are being followed, and if not, there will be consequences which may include not being able to use the device.

14. Use email, wikis, podcasting, and other virtual learning environments responsibly.

15. Know that the conduct that is forbidden in school is also forbidden when using devices outside of school if it interferes with other students’ education, and if it breaks the rules there will consequences in school.

16. Understand everything done on the device is subject to search and is considered school information, not private information.

17. Check their cell phones into a teacher upon arrival at school or leave cell phones in their lockers. Cell phones found in a student’s possession will be confiscated by the school and the parent will need to claim the cell phone.

Parents understand that they are responsible for the payment of any and all Technology Device Replacement Fees that may be assessed to student resulting from any device being lost, stolen or purposefully damaged while in the student’s possession. Parents understand that student’s use of any device, whether issued by the school or not, shall at all times be subject to the Technology Policy adopted by the Board of Directors of Crossroads. Although students are supervised while using technology, a filtering system in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is utilized, and use is electronically monitored, Parents are aware of the possibility that student may gain access to material that school officials and parent may consider inappropriate or not of educational value.
