I understand that we all learn in different ways, and we learn best when we feel comfortable, safe, supported, and inspired.
I live in Fifty Lakes, Minnesota. I married my husband, Chad, in 1992. We have a daughter, Sidney, born in 2002, and a son, Tristan, born in 2004. Both of our children attended Crosslake Community School and remain close friends with many of their classmates to this day. Beyond the classroom, I enjoy reading, exercising, time outdoors, and traveling.
I have taught English and/or reading skills for over 17 years in both large and small Minnesota school districts. I am licensed in English Language Arts for grades 5 through 12, and I have enjoyed the privilege of helping students become stronger readers and writers for many years.
I earned a BA in English and a teaching certification from Augsburg College. I also hold a master's degree in education, and my graduate studies focused on motivating at-risk students. I recently completed coursework on the Science of Reading which has equipped me with the latest researched-based strategies for effective reading instruction.
