August 11, 2026
Dear Cromwell Public Schools Community,
It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as your new Superintendent of Schools. Although I officially began in this role on July 27th, I have already had the pleasure of meeting many dedicated educators, support staff, parents, and engaged community members. In just a few short weeks, I look forward to welcoming more than 1,800 students, approximately 400 staff members, and countless families back to our schools. I am incredibly excited to begin this journey together. All of our staff is preparing to welcome students back to school on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
As we begin this school year, our goal is to embrace new opportunities to work collaboratively, inspire a passion for learning throughout our district, and have the courage to uphold what we know is best for our students' learning, growth, and sense of belonging. This work is meaningful, and while it can be challenging and, at times, uncomfortable, we are strongest when we approach it together as one unified team.
Our faculty, support staff, and administrators remain committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment where every individual is treated with dignity and respect. Together, we will continue to build a culture that supports learning, collaboration, and success for all.
If you are eligible for Free and/or Reduced lunch and are notified after completing the proper paperwork, your child will automatically receive one breakfast and one free lunch per school day free of charge.
If you have not been notified by Cromwell Public Schools that you are directly certified, you must fill out the Free/Reduced Form.
Breakfast is no longer free of charge to all students; only to students who are eligible through the application process.
It is of utmost importance that parents/guardians complete and return the Free/Reduced Form that will be sent home on the first day of school in order to qualify to receive free meals throughout this upcoming school year. Only send in an application if you have not received a letter from the district by the first day of school. Please contact your school with any questions, as we know these changes can cause confusion.
Once it becomes available, please log into the Parent Portal in PowerSchool and review/update your student's information to ensure we have accurate contact information on file. Keeping this information current allows us to share important school updates, emergency notifications, and other communications in a timely manner.
Effective communication is an essential part of building a strong partnership between our schools and families. We regularly share information through our district website, Cromwell.k12.ct.us, as well as through email and automated phone messages. Please help us stay connected by ensuring your contact information is up to date.

I am very excited about the possibilities this year will bring. On behalf of Cromwell Public Schools, it is truly my honor and privilege to welcome everyone back, and I look forward to meeting our wonderful students, staff, and families and to having a promising 2026-2027 school year. On that note, I would also like to invite all of you to an informal meet-and-greet with me before the start of the school year, if your schedule permits. I welcome the opportunity to get to know you better and spend some time connecting before the school year gets underway. Please feel free to contact my office, and we will be happy to coordinate a date and time that is convenient for you. The meetings will be scheduled in 30-minute increments.
As always, "Placing Students First" remains the mission of Cromwell Public Schools. It serves as the foundation for every decision we make, guiding our commitment to providing a safe, secure, and supportive environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive.
Please enjoy the remaining days of your summer break.
Sincerely,
Mike Lucas
