Superintendent's Message
August 12, 2024
Dear Cromwell Public Schools Community,
I hope this letter finds you all healthy, well and enjoying your summer break. I cannot believe school will start in just a few short weeks, where did the time go? So far, our summer has been filled with painting, construction, hiring, updating the website and technology, state reports, etc., and at this time next year, we will be opening the new Cromwell Middle School to students and staff! It is very exciting to see the rate of progress we are making and are eager to share all this good news with you. All of our staff is preparing to welcome students back to school on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
I believe that we need to refresh public perception about the value diversity brings to our schools and invigorates engagement in our classrooms. Our goal this year will be to embrace new ways of working together, sparking energy for learning across our district and having the courage to stand by what we know to be true about learning and acceptance. It is hard work and often uncomfortable but we can do this work together as one. Our faculty, support staff and administration strive to create a positive and welcoming school environment by demonstrating mutual respect for everyone in our buildings. As I continue to say, “Placing Students First” is the mission statement for the Cromwell Public Schools, and it is at the forefront of every decision we make to ensure safety, security and well-being for all.
With respect to the availability of Free/Reduced meals for your children, please know that the State Department of Education (SDE) has lowered the income threshold and requirements for school meals, which may now apply to you, and has made the following changes for this coming school year.
If you are eligible for Free and/or Reduced lunch and are notified after completing the proper paperwork; your child will automatically receive one breakfast and one free lunch per school day free of charge.
If you have not been notified by Cromwell Public Schools that you are directly certified, you must fill out the Free/Reduced Form.
Breakfast is no longer free of charge to all students; only to students who are eligible through the application process.
It is of utmost importance that parents/guardians complete and return the Free/Reduced Form that will be sent home on the first day of school in order to qualify to receive free meals throughout this upcoming school year. Only send in an application if you have not received a letter from the district by the first day of school. Please contact your school with any questions as we know these changes can cause confusion.
Once available, please make sure you access the Parent Portal in PowerSchool to update all information to ensure we have the correct contact information to relay important updates and communications. Communication is a key component and is critical in ensuring a strong partnership with parents and guardians. We communicate frequently through our website Cromwell.k12.ct.us, and through emails and phone messages via our automated call system.
Please click here to view the 2024-2025 District School Calendar. I would also like to take this moment to welcome the families who are new to Cromwell Public Schools. We look forward to working with you and your children.
I am very excited about the possibilities this year will bring. On behalf of Cromwell Public Schools, it is truly my honor and privilege to welcome everyone back, and I am looking forward to seeing our wonderful students, staff, and families and having a promising 2024-2025 school year.
Please enjoy the remaining days of your summer break.
Sincerely,
