Roadmap to Course Selection
Course Recommendations: January-February
The course selection process commences with teacher recommendations. Rising 9th-grade students receive guidance from their math and world language teachers in middle school, while currently enrolled high school students receive recommendations from their content teachers. Should a student or caregiver wish to override a teacher's recommendation, they must complete the Course Override Form by the end of March.
Course Selection: February-March
Following the recommendations, students have a two-week period to select their courses for the upcoming school year. During February, students can visit with teachers during advisory blocks to gain insights before making their selections.
Master Schedule Development: March
In March, the administration and school counseling team work together to develop the master schedule and assign students to their courses. Students are placed in available classes, but it is important to note that course selection does not guarantee placement. If enrollment numbers are insufficient, a class may not be offered, requiring students who signed up for that class to choose an alternative. Conversely, if a class reaches full capacity, students who registered will not be able to enroll in that class for that semester. Priority for placement will be determined based on grade level, teacher recommendations, and the necessity for students to fulfill graduation requirements.
Finalizing Schedules: April-May
Once the master schedule is established, our school counselors will meet with students, starting with the rising senior class, to review their course selections and make any necessary adjustments. Students will have the opportunity to modify their schedules to better suit their needs. Our school counseling department is available to meet with all students who request assistance with scheduling matters.
