What does Cricut Flatten Tool do?

Using the Cricut Flatten tool does three things are:

  1. This "Flattens" chosen all layers into a single layer.

  2. It also removes every internal cut line from the chosen layers. This places a cut line around the outer outline of the newly combined picture.

  3. Then, it converts the newly merged picture into a print then cut layer instead of a cut layer.

Here are the instructions to use the Cricut Flatten Tool

First, let’s open up the Cricut Design Space and work with some examples. All you will need is free Design Spaces software and a Cricut machine. Here are the easy steps for using the Flatten Tool:

Step 1: Open Design Space software and start a new project. Arrange two or more layers on the Design Space canvas screen.

Step 2: Choose the layers you want to Flatten. You will see a gray bounding box surrounding the pictures and the selected layers highlighted in the Layers panel. The Flatten button will turn black and activate.

Step 3: Press on the Flatten button. You will find the Flatten button at the bottom side of the Layers panel in the Actions menu at the bottom side of the screen if you're on a computer using the iOS and Android apps.

Step 4: View your results. After pressing Flatten, the pictures will be combined into a new, single layer. The new layer will be called "Flatten" and have the operation label "Print Then Cut." Now you can move, resize, or edit this layer just like you would with any other picture layer.

Some of the things to keep in mind when you are using Flatten tool

● The Flatten tool acts on one or more visible layers. If you don't have only any visible layers selected, the button will be "grayed out," and you won't be able to use it.

● You can use flatten on a single layer or multiple layers. Flatten can convert a single cut layer to a single print layer. Or, Flatten can combine multiple cut layers into a single print layer.

● After using Flatten, individual layers are no longer editable. It means that you can't change the color, size, font, etc., of any component layer of the Flatten design.

●The Flatten works whether the layers are overlapping or not. Overlapping pictures will be cropped as one piece. Non-overlapping pictures will be cropped as separate pieces.
