The Caribbean has an opportunity to unlock its full blue economic potential while ensuring inclusivity and the protection of the livelihoods and interests of all stakeholders, including those with an interest in fisheries and aquaculture.

The CRFM is the executing agency for the US$48 million project titled, โ€œBE-CLME+: Promoting National Blue Economy Priorities Through Marine Spatial Planning in the Caribbean Large Marine Ecosystem Plus,โ€ funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This project seeks to maintain and preserve cultural heritage through sustainable fisheries management, improved livelihoods, and alternative livelihoods, while strengthening the integration of fisheries and ecosystem management to restore, protect, and maintain the diversity, productivity, and resilience of marine ecosystems. In partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), the CRFM and the target countries (Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, Panama, and Saint Lucia) are co-financing the project.

This seminar will drive engagement on the opportunities and strategies for unlocking our full blue economic potential; foster a deeper understanding of the factors, issues, challenges, and opportunities surrounding a vibrant blue economy; and strengthen dialogue, networking, collaboration, and coordination in scaling up blue economic growth, ensuring the inclusion of stakeholders in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
