What if I have specific dietary needs or food allergies?
No problem! Worldstrides and their contracted food services are very accommodating of these needs. We communicate ahead of time to plan for specifics (i.e. gluten-free, nut-free, etc.) and in the event there is not a viable option, one of our chaperones will make sure the student gets the appropriate food. Students are also welcome to pack snacks with them, for during the day and for the hotel. Additionally, we enforce a "no-nut" rule on the buses for everyone's safety and well-being. Last, but not least - we always bring a school nurse on the trip!
What if I take medications?
Again, no problem! Prior to the trip, we will ask families to complete Medical Information forms, where you will make note of any medical concerns, including medication administration. The school nurse attending the trip will contact you in advance of the trip to discuss with you, and there will be an opportunity to drop off medication to the nurse prior to the trip, if needed.
Is there a packing list?
Yes! We will share a recommended packing list prior to the trip. Since we cannot predict the weather, it is also smart to plan for COMFORT and a variety of weather possibilities.
Is there a rain date for this trip?
No. Due to the large-scale of the trip, involving hotel reservations, charter buses, restaurant reservations, etc. we will be rolling out on May 6th, rain or shine! We always manage to have an adventure despite the weather conditions. We will keep an eye on the forecast leading up to the trip and modify the recommended packing list accordingly.
How are the hotel and bus assignments created?
In April 2022, the students will self-select their roommates in groups of 4. There are no exceptions and no possibility of a room of 5. There may also be students who have one or two other friends to room with, and there may be students who aren't sure who to ask. Guidance will work with the students to ensure that EVERYONE finds a place. The buses are assigned prior to the trip, and students will remain on the same bus throughout the trip. Rooms are guaranteed to be on the same bus, however, we do not guarantee groups on the same bus beyond that. Students will have plenty of opportunities for socializing with the entire group throughout the trip!
Who is monitoring the trip?
Ms. Taha works very closely with our representative from WorldStrides to plan the trip, especially in the months prior. There are many behind-the-scenes details that are addressed ahead of time to ensure a smooth and successful trip!
Chaperones for the trip are teachers from Cresskill Middle School, primarily those with 8th grade teaching assignments. We work together as a team to ensure the safety and well-being of students as we move en masse around the city!
How can I follow the trip in real-time?
We Tweet the trip and use a special hashtag! Check out #CresskillDC19 and #CresskillDC2018 for some highlights from previous years.
