Adapted from the CAST UDL Framework
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Similarities and Differences with Differentiated Instruction (DI)
UDL and DI have many similarities and a few major differences. Instead of adapting a lesson for each individual student who is struggling with access, a Universal Design for Learning based lesson plan offers choices in how ALL students can engage with the information, how they represent their learning and how they show what they know. This gives all students with variability in learning styles the opportunity to show their strengths and be fully engaged in learning through voice and choice.
