Screening/Assessments
Early Identification of children with special needs is the most important aspect in ensuring that children maximize their potential. This is an area that is unfortunately most neglected, both by parents and by professionals.
Identifying developmental delays early ensures that Early Intervention services can be provided to a child. Early intervention is the most effective way to help prevent further developmental delays and ensures that children reach their full potential.
Early identification consists of 3 distinct processes:
Screening: Screening (including developmental and health screening) includes activities to identify children who may need further evaluation in order to determine the existence of a delay in development or a particular disability.
Evaluation: Evaluation is used to determine the existence of a delay or disability, to identify the child’s strengths and needs in all areas of development.
Assessments: Assessment is used to determine the individual child’s present level of performance and early intervention or special education needs.
