Snap Words

Please use the drop down box next to snap words on the top of the page in order to find the list of words for each grade level.

Activities to practice snap words:

• Flash cards

• Tic-tac-toe: Have your child choose two snap words, one for them and one for you. Take turns writing the snap words in the grid. The first one to get three in a row wins .

• Snap word Bingo: Fill out blank bingo boards with snap words and then take turns calling out the snap words. the first one to fill a row or column wins.

• Shine a light on it!: Tape index cards with snap words to the ceiling or wall or use sticky notes to protect the paint on the walls. Turn the lights off and have your child shine the light on a word and read it or leave the lights on and call out a word. See how quickly your child can find the word and shine a light on it. These are perfect before bedtime!

• Hop to it!: Create a hopscotch board with sidewalk chalk. Place a snap word in each square- as your child hops along the board have them read the snap word.

• Time yourself!: Have your child read through his/her sight word list and time it. Have them do it again to try and beat their time.

• Beat the clock!: Have your child try to read through his/her snap word list before the timer runs out.

• Clap, spell, chant!: Clap the word, spell it letter by letter as you clap then chant the word again. Use different kinds of voices (baby, robot) or voice levels (whisper, shouting).

• What's the password?: Make a snap word password for each room in your house- tape the word on each door, your child must read the word in order to enter the room.
