What Is The Fastest Car In The World?

Introduction

While you were in your car, have you ever wondered how fast a car could go? If so, then let me tell you how fast a car can really go!!

In 2020, with a combined average speed of 316 mph (miles per hour), Guinness World Records certified the SSC Tuatara as the fastest street legal production car in the world. The Tuatara is named after a lizard found in New Zealand. The SSC Tuatara is limited to a small number of 100 copies made. The SSC Tuatara is worth $1.9 million.

Design

The SSC Tuatara comes with a sleek body made of carbon fiber. It is a unique hypercar that is the result of 10 years of research and development, and comes with butterfly doors. The Tuatara’s design is unlike any other. It's eye-catching curves give it simple and aerodynamic abilities while keeping a unique profile.

Engine

The Tuatara runs on a gas called E85 ethanol. It powers its engine which has a 5.9 liter flat plane V8, making 1,750 hp (horsepower), 8,800 rpm (revolutions per minute), and 1,280 lb of torque. The Tuatara’s transmission was built to handle the car's fiercely performing 50 millisecond shifts.

The Tuatara transforms into an all-terrain driver's car in sport mode, and becomes a performance beast in track mode.

Top Speed

Also, at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the SSC Tuatara reached an average speed of 280.9 mph. This was done on 2.3 miles of the 3 mile runway. SSC produced 2 videos of the hypercar's record breaking run. (The run of 316 mph was done on a different track than the track at the Kennedy Space Center.)

However, the hypercar’s speed was incorrectly displayed. To back up it’s top speed claim, SSC put out a very detailed explanation about what went wrong. SSC claims that because of the video being incorrectly edited, the speed was not shown correctly.

The GPS (Global Positioning System) speed tracking maker used by SSC says that it hasn’t yet accepted or confirmed the Tuatara’s top speed.

Competition

There are two other cars that have reached above 300 mph. One of them is the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport at 304 mph, and the other is the Hennessey Venom F5 at 301 mph. The Bugatti’s 0-60 speed is 2.4 seconds. It has a quad turbo, 8 liter W16, 6700 rpm, and 1,500 hp. The Hennessey Venom’s 0-60 speed is 2.6 seconds. It has a twin turbo, 6.6-liter V8, 8000 rpm, and 1,817 hp.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I believe that the SSC Tuatara is the fastest car in the world, even though its top speed claim is still yet to be confirmed.

BONUS CAR: Thrust SSC

The Trust SSC holds the world record for the highest top speed at 1,228 km\h (763 mph).

This was done on October 15, 1997, and also became the first land vehicle to officially break the sound barrier.

The Thrust SSC is not a production car and the SSC Tuatara is a production car (production means the car company makes multiple copies of the car model and that it sells to the public.)
