What is a wild horse?

mustangs

Did you know that mustangs are often called wild horses? Wild horses are herbivores (herbivore means they do not eat other animals or meat and only eat plants).

Sometimes wild horses look just like they are domesticated horse, but wild horses have stronger legs. Wild horses can be many colors such as gray, black, brown, white, or bay, which is a reddish brown color.

Another detail is that wild horses have many different names like Mustangs or Brumby and Appaloosa ,paint horse, and blue roan, also a chestnut horse . Also mustangs (wild horses) are usually dirty because they travel around a lot and they don't have barns or stables to live in like domesticated horses do, or caregivers to keep them clean.

Mustangs are often referred to as a wild horse, but because they came from once domesticated horses they are properly defined as feral horses.

herds and foals

Wild horses live in different parts of the world. They also may live in a group of wild horses, called a herd.

Baby horses are called foals, and every single horse in the world must be able to run or gallop very fast so they can get away from danger. Another detail is that mustangs are free-roaming horses of the American west that first descended from horses brought to the Americans by the Spanish.

Eating habits

The difference between wild horses and farm horses is that farm horses are tamed and wild horses are untamed.

Both wild horses and tame horses mostly eat grass, but Mustangs can survive without that much food.

Adult horses eat a lot of food every day. Wild horses are very heavy and they can weigh as much as 800 pounds
