Will Patrick Mahomes Become the Best Quarterback Ever?

Introduction

      Are you a football fan? Oh good, so am I. But even if you aren’t, I bet you’ve heard of Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. These athletes are two great football quarterbacks. Tom Brady is now retired and Mahomes is still playing. 

    If you are like me, you might have wondered if Patrick Mahomes will become the greatest quarterback ever.  I’m going to tell you the facts and let you decide.

Brady’s Ten Super Bowls

     In Tom Brady’s football career he has made it to the Super Bowl more times than any other football player.  Superstar quarterback Tom Brady led his teams the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to 10 Super Bowls.  Brady won 7 Super Bowl titles. He had 6 wins with the Patriots, and Brady’s seventh and final Super Bowl victory happened in 2021 when he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

    Over the 20 years that Brady has played for the Patriots and Buccaneers, he has won 35 playoff games and lost only 13 games in the playoffs.            

Mahomes Four Super Bowls

     Patrick Mahomes is one of the only quarterbacks that has won three or more Super Bowls.  He ranks up there with some other great quarterbacks in NFL history. Tom Brady has won 7 Super Bowls.  Terry Bradshaw won 4 Super Bowls with the Steelers.  and Joe Montana won 4 Super Bowls with the 49ers. Also, Troy Aikman won 3 Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys.

    In 2020, Mahomes led his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, to their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years. The score was 31-20 against the San Francisco 49ers.  Patrick Mahomes is also the third African American quarterback to win the Super Bowl.  The only others who have won a Super Bowl are Russell Wilson and Doug Williams. 

     Patrick Mahomes was 28 years old when he won his third Super Bowl. Tom Brady won his third Super Bowl when he was 27 years old, but he didn't win his fourth Super Bowl until he was 37 years old. When will Patrick Mahomes will his fourth?

Brady’s Records

      Brady spent his first 20 seasons with the Patriots from 2001 to 2019.  His last three seasons were with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Tom Brady is the most valuable player of his teams because he won the MVP award as the best player in the NFL three times in his career in 2007, 2010, and 2017.  Brady also won the Super Bowl MVP award five times in 2002, 2004, 2015, 2017, and 2021.  

Brady’s Career Passing Stats

      Tom Brady has a lot of records as an NFL Passer such as most career passing yards, most career touchdown passes, and most career completions.  One reason people think Tom Brady is the best quarterback ever is because he has set many records.  He also hold records for the most games played and most Super Bowl victories. 

    Over his entire NFL career Tom Brady has won 251 games and lost 82. Tom Brady completed 12,050 passes in his career for a total of 89,214 yards. Brady has 649 passing touchdowns and a career passer rating of 97.2. 

Mahomes Career Passing Stats

     Since 2018 Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has led his team to six AFC Championships and four Super Bowls.  Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs to winning 3 Super Bowls so far.  

     In 2020, Mahomes was the youngest player ever to win the Super Bowl MVP. He was only 24 years old. Patrick Mahomes has won the Super Bowl MVP three times in 2020, 2023, and 2024.for his performance.  He was the youngest player ever to win it.  

    During the first seven years of Patrick Mahomes NFL career, so far he has won 74 games and lost 22. Patrick Mahomes has completed 2,386 passes in his career so far for a total of 28,424 yards. Mahome has 219 passing touchdowns and a career passer rating of 103.5. 

Conclusion

      These two fabulous quarterbacks are both amazing athletes. But personally I think Tom Brady is the better QB. He has played longer and has more experience on the field, and he has a lot more Super Bowl victories!

     Patrick Mahomes is only 28 years old and has lots of years left to play and set his own records. Maybe if he keeps playing at a high level for year after year after year like Tom Brady, he will be able to become the GOAT that Tom Brady is.
