My dog barks a lot and I want to know why. First of all, dogs are owned by 47 percent of American homes, including mine. In fact ,dogs have been living with people for about 50,000 years.
To begin, dogs were tamed from wolves. In the wild, wolves howl to tell other wolves to back off or to help them find there way back home. In the wild, only wolf pups bark. Adult wolves don't bark, but they yip, howl, and also whine.
One reason dogs bark is because people made them that way by picking dogs that act more puppy like.
Another fact is not all dogs can bark! The Basenji is a dog that cannot bark. Hunters purposely made the Basenji dog that way by picking dogs that barked the least. Instead of barking, Basenjis can yodel.
In conclusion, my dog barks because she is related to wolves. Just like me, she needs to tell someone when she is hungry, thirsty or not feeling well.
