Summer Reading Assignments (2026–2027)

Welcome to the official New Bern High School Summer Reading hub for Honors and Advanced Placement English courses. This website provides all required reading texts, assignment instructions, and submission expectations for the following courses: English I Honors, English II Honors, English III Honors, AP Language and Composition, English IV Honors, and AP Literature and Composition.

Our summer reading program is designed to help you build critical reading, writing, and analytical skills that are essential for success in advanced English courses. These assignments will prepare you to engage in meaningful discussions, write with depth and clarity, and begin the school year with confidence.

Important Note: Although these are called “summer reading” assignments, they are required for all students enrolled in Honors or AP English courses, including those currently taking Honors or AP English in the spring semester. All reading and assignments must be completed prior to the first day of instruction for their respective term, regardless of your current course enrollment.
