At New Bern High School, we strive for excellence everyday! Our Bears are actively using our media center not only for book checkout, but for research, literature circles, and so much more. Check out what we have been doing!
April--Poetry Month- Ekphrastic Poetry- Using art work to create poetry.
Guarded by Stars by Sophia Oliver. (Sonnet)
The restful metropolis is shielded,
Its stars allow it to reside in place,
The light of the gloomy stars impeded,
By the whirly clouds taking up its space.
As extra precaution to this city,
The melancholic mountains will stand guard,
They congregate as if a committee,
This place like a prison will remain barred.
The dismal town stays wallowing in night,
Their heads resting in their dainty dwelling,
The shining stars can’t barely bare the sight,
Of these residents screeching and yelling.
So the stars will guard the sky ever so gray,
And the mountains will soothe the dreadful days.
My beautiful black hair

You talk about my hair
How it’s big and wild
Make me feel sad and ashamed
Judged me when I walk past
But baby I had to understand
This thick hair with these
Thick curls is powerful
Something people wish
They had so imma walk
Around happy and proud
Like a black women should
An represent this beauty
