National Honor Society (NHS)
Welcome to the New Bern High School National Honor Society (NHS) page! The NHS is a prestigious organization dedicated to recognizing and fostering excellence in high school students. Our chapter is committed to upholding the core values of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
What is the NHS?
The National Honor Society is a nationwide organization that honors students who demonstrate outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, service, and character. Established in 1921, the NHS aims to encourage a commitment to these essential values and to inspire students to continue their pursuit of excellence.
Membership Criteria
To be considered for membership in our NHS chapter, students must meet the following criteria:
Scholarship: Maintain a high academic average, an unweighted GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Leadership: Exhibit leadership skills through involvement in school activities, clubs, or community organizations.
Service: Demonstrate a commitment to service through volunteer work and contributions to the community.
Character: Show strong moral character and ethical behavior both in and out of school.
How to Join
Membership in the NHS is by invitation. Eligible students will receive an invitation based on their academic performance and demonstrated leadership and service at the beginning of each school year. A formal application process follows, including submission of an application form, essays, and letters of recommendation. Candidates are evaluated by the NHS selection committee, which reviews each applicant's qualifications and contributions.
Requirements
Service Hours: Members must complete 10 service hours annually dedicated to NHS activities. These hours cannot be shared with or counted towards other clubs or organizations. Members can submit proof of these activities in a google form provided by Advisors.
Annual Fee: There is a $25 fee each year to support NHS activities and resources.
Members are able to purchase optional NHS pins and stoles for graduation. Information for these purchases will be provided during initial meetings.
Activities and Projects
Our NHS chapter is actively involved in a variety of projects and activities, including:
