Meet the new Buzz team!
I joined The Buzz because I like English and in the future I may want to become a journalist. I think writing is fun and I enjoy trying out different styles and genres. Think about whether or not you could write for the Buzz; it's great fun and very rewarding! Being a senior editor, I have helped our younger pupils to write and edit their articles, as well as my own.
Hello I’m Freddie.
I joined The Buzz to have a different experience from sport and to improve on my English and to write about interesting stories all over the School. These include, skateboard club and how they do such cool tricks and how all the teachers ran 5k to raise money for Mrs Wild.
Hello I’m Charlie.
I love playing sports such as cricket, football, hockey, table tennis, so I thought it would be fun to write about all the sport in school. It has been great fun being part of The Buzz working with such a kind team. I recommend that you give it go one day and experience being a journalist.
Hi, I am Bea .
I love working on the Buzz and being creative. Writing is my favourite thing to do, so one day I dream of being an author because I have so many stories in my head bursting to get out. Sadly, I'm moving schools and I will miss The Buzz, but I hope to be part of another school magazine.
Hi, I’m Charlie.
I joined The Buzz because I like knowing all that is going on in the school. I also like reading news papers to keep up-to-date with what's going on in the world. Being part of The Buzz team has been amazing because we all work together and have great fun producing it.
The Coronation by Bea C
On Saturday 6th May 2023, King Charles III was crowned. It was a very important and special experience for most people in Britain and many schools celebrated the start of his reign, like us!
On the Friday before the Coronation, we went to school dressed in red, white and blue clothes for the British flag. Lots of activities took place, from crown drawings to Coronation Maths booklets. We even created a special recycled crown competition in honour of our king. Congratulations to Connie N, for making the best eco crown, fit for a king! Her golden sceptre and beautifully drawn and painted jewels just had to come first. Our wonderful kitchen staff provided us with superb snacks and a lovely lunch. At breaktime everyone munched Coronation cupcakes and some were made in Food Tech. In lunch we enjoyed Coronation Chicken and Quiche, topped off with a delicious dessert of Eaton Mess. Everyone had such fun on Coronation Day!
Long Live the King!!

Cricket interviews by Charlie S
Cricket summer 2023
This term's cricket has been going very well. We have got quite a few wins, but also a few losses. A special thanks to Mr Stone for arranging all the matches everyone has played.
Here is Harry D talking about cricket, “I have won about half the matches I’ve played and I’m really enjoying it, I love cricket because it’s fun to play with your friends as a team, and the most supportive person is not a player - it’s actually Mr Brewer.'
Orla R said, ’At the moment we have won 3/6 matches we played, and I think Jess has really improved. I love cricket because of the team spirit and the encouragement. It was really funny when everyone was tanning outside the boundary whilst we were batting.'
SKATEBOARDING AT CPS
Every Monday evening, some of our brave, talented pupils take over The Quad attempting to improve their techniques and skills on their skateboards.
Impressively, Alex demonstrated a fearless performance of ‘Ollie Down The Stairs’ and Edmund showed us how effortlessly he could skate down the ramp, whilst Hunter jumped over the grinding board. Mr Batchelor commented, ‘The skateboarding community have been very brave by learning new tricks that they weren’t able to master before, and that is because of the great encouragement that they have given each other.’
If you’re ever walking through The Quad at this time, do stop and be impressed by some incredible tricks from our skateboard group.

On May 5th, Form 5 had the wonderful opportunity to go to York for a history trip. They spent three days exploring old ruins (Helmsley Castle and Byland Abbey), museums (York castle museum and the railway museum), old buildings such as Clifford’s Tower, and York Minster(the largest minster in the UK).
The pupils enjoyed visiting the different museums and buildings, but everyone’s favourite was the railway museum. Not only does it have the largest collection of trains in the world but it also has a model railway and an archives room. And we all enjoyed hearing Mr Batchelors terrible jokes!
Pupils also found York Minster very interesting. Did you know that it has the tomb of William of Hatfield and William Fitzherbet.
Once Form 5 returned to the Youth Hostel they had time to socialise and rest in their rooms before going down to eat.
After a long but exciting two nights and three days, Form 5 were glad to return home, but disappointed at the thought of a 6 hour bus journey back to Cranleigh.
On Sunday 21st May, Restless Development held a triathlon at Cranleigh school to raise money for their charity. A triathlon is where many children form teams and compete in 3 different sports: running; swimming and cycling
Restless Development is the leading youth-led development agency. They have been working in Tanzania since 1993 and have established an impressive track record in delivering grassroots impact through youth led development programs aligned to the Government of Tanzania's Consecutive National Development Plans.
Distances
· In the swimming, Lower School (Forms 1, 2) swim 50m, middle school(forms 3, 4)swim 50m.
· In the cycling the Lower School cycle 1k and so do Middle school.
· Middle School and Lower School both run 750m.
It was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all, and together we helped the charity raise over £950,000 together with the 21 school schools that took part.

Form 3 and 4’s Frightful Author Visit
On Friday the 2nd of May Form 3 and Form 4 had a very exciting day ahead of them. The author of the previous awesome book award, Jack Meggitt – Phillips, the writer of the Beast and the Bethany, came to the Cranleigh school with a terrifying idea to murder the new author to keep his place for the awesome book award (because the beast ate all the other authors and it was his chance to at least eat one, am I right?) But don’t worry we eventually calmed him down with a few other suggestions of what he could do. He talked about his new book, “The Beast’s Son” coming out in September 2023. He also let some of us have a go creating our own story, for example Ted B (Form 4) was in a cricket match but at the last minute he ducked, everybody started booing and putting their thumbs down. An another example Arjun (Form 3) had a perfect land filled with sushi and hedgehogs, but then badgers came and ate up all the hedgehogs and stepped on all the sushi. Luckily he flew away on a Unicorn and lived happily ever after (apart from the hedgehogs and the sushi of course) anyway, Form 3 and 4 had a lovely time and we want to thank Jack for being the greatest author of them all (maybe because we murdered all the other authors).

On Friday 27th June, 16 pupils from Form 4 set off to Rockley Point, Poole, for a weekend of sailing. Sunshine and gentle breeze made the conditions perfect for our beginner sailors. The pupils started Day 1 by learning how to rig the boats (Picos) on dry land, and practise the basics of steering and tacking. Very quickly, having been towed out into the estuary, they were off! In pairs, they tried to master how to tack round buoys in a figure of eight; one steering, one in charge of the main sheet. Squeals and laughter could be heard from the shore. The day rounded off perfectly with an evening playing rounders and volleyball on the beach, watching the sun go down. By the second day, several boats enjoyed capsizing - some deliberately, some less-so - but smiles all round. We were very proud that all pupils successfully completed their Stage 1 RYA course by the time we set off home.
The Buzz
Mrs Wild, Mrs Diaconu, whatever you remember her as, was a Form 1 teacher loved by many with her active mood and her obsession with Percy Pigs. Teachers around the school, including Mrs Smith, Mrs Lewis, Mrs Brooks and many more ran 5k to raise money for Cancer Research.
Mrs Wild will never be forgotten and always be in our heart forever.

On 11th May Form 4 went on a trip to the Shah Jahan Mosque in Woking as part of our RP studies.
The Imam was so welcoming and friendly and we learnt all about the history of the Mosque. It was so much fun trying to guess how many stars there were on top of the dome and we answered questions all about what each room was for.
My favourite part was watching them pray and realising how special and important it was to their lifestyle. We learnt that they prayed five times a day and each prayer mat faces Mecca, their holy place in Saudi Arabia.
It was a fun day out full of learning and laughter.

Every day of the week, our wonderful kitchen staff prepare delicious meals for the entire school, and the teachers and suppers and breakfasts. From pasta and roasts to sausage rolls and chips, all of the food is carefully prepared and tasty. Also, every day, everything varies. The hot meal, the jacket filling, the soup, the salad bar, the cold puddings, the hot desserts… We are so lucky.
But, with all this choice comes waste. On Earth, 2.5 billion tons of food is wasted per year, which is over a third of all food produced, and we can fix that, even if it’s just a little. If you don’t like something, don’t choose it, and if you aren’t sure, only ask for a bit.
Top 5 Tips to Preventing Food Waste
1. Don’t ask for things you know you don’t like
2. Try to eat your leftovers
3. Don’t take too much and ask for more if you’re still hungry when you’ve finished.
4. Try to not drop food on the ground
5. Eat as neatly as you can

It was really exciting to try out the VEX robots as part of Lego Coding Club. Here Forms 1 and 2 got to have a go at scoring a goal with a robot and learnt how to program it so that followed an obstacle course. We had such a good time and learnt a lot about robots and coding. Thanks to Mr Brewer for letting us have a go after a long day of Form 5 and a visiting school carried out a variety of VEX challenges. It was awesome!

The Head Girl says:
'Throughout CPS, I have many, many memories, so it is very hard to pick one but Swanage was definitely a favourite! Thank you to all the teachers for always being there for support, whether it’s cleaning staff or a Maths teacher, at Cranleigh, the students always have someone there.
For the next Head Boy and Head Girl, to be a good leader, you have to (even if your year is misbehaving) be the bigger person and to set an example for the rest of the school by doing what’s right. Finally, for the younger years, what you put into your time at CPS is what you get out, so the memories that last the longest are when you are being kind, genuine and enjoying yourself!!'
Evie
The Head Boy says:
'Since joining in Form 1, I have enjoyed every moment. I have formed life-long friends and am hugely grateful to all the teachers who have been part of my journey.
I remember when I was in Form 3 we went on our residential for a two night trip, and when I was very homesick and Mr and Mrs Brooks, drove all the way to help me. I am hugely grateful for all the support and kindness I have been shown. Cranleigh Prep is a very special place with a strong spirit to allow pupils to flourish. Although I feel excited about my next chapter, I will miss being here hugely.'

Best wishes from the Buzz Team...and Twiglet!
