Meet the Team
Robyn and Georgia
(Photo taken by Martha)
Robyn is very creative and approaches everything with enthusiasm. Some of her favourite things to do are playing the violin, piano and the cello. Robyn is also very passionate about baking and art. She decided to join The Buzz because she loves to be part of a team and writing about the things that are going on around the school. She has always enjoyed the competitions, and is excited about creating some of her own.
Georgia is really cool, kind natured, and a great friend to many. She is very good at horse riding as well as being extremely creative. Furthermore, she is passionate about sailing, paddle-boarding and she loves all animals. She decided to join The Buzz because she enjoys reading and writing, and she is looking forward to developing her skills as a journalist.
Hi I’m Freddy
I wanted to join The Buzz to take a break from all the sports I do, and try something new.
The idea of being a journalist inspired me to be involved, and I love writing stories so I thought it would be an amazing opportunity. Outside of The Buzz, you might find me on the football field, playing the guitar or in the cops.
Hi I’m Ellie
I decided to join The Buzz because I love being part of a team.
I really like writing because it is relaxing, calming and I also like being imaginative. The Buzz allows me to practise creativity.
Outside of The Buzz I play the trumpet and sing, I love art and drama.
I am in several art clubs.
My favourite sports are cricket and netball. I am in a netball club called Rudgwick netball club. We win some of the matches but we always try our best. 😂
The SOUP-ERHEROS Behind the Scene
The catering team is what makes the school a happy place. Members of staff work all day to provide us with delicious and healthy meals and snacks. They also clean and dry all of our cutlery, plates, glasses and wipe down our tables after we have eaten. We are extremely lucky to have this great team of chefs and catering staff, always looking out for us. Sometimes their hard work can go unnoticed, but really when we are learning, doing games and playing at break, they are making sure our next meal will be just as delicious as the last. As well as cooking snacks and lunch, they are also making the boarder’s dinner and breakfast. We are all truly grateful.
We thought it would be interesting to find out more about the team. Read some of the fun facts that we discovered!

Mel loves watching football and she supports liverpool. Her favourite food is spaghetti bolognese and her previous job she had was spraying air buses, making glass shower screens as well as spraying Mclaren racing cars.
Maria’s favourite food is salad and she worked in Australia plantation before coming to Cranleigh Prep. She has worked here for 20 years, but sadly she is retiring to go to Jersey to see her granddaughter and daughter. Thank you so much Maria for all you have done. We will miss you!
Mandy’s favourite food is the delicious smoked haddock! Before working here Mandy worked in a wine bottling factory and she also enjoys bidding on horse racing.
Caroline loves lasagne and before joining Cranleigh she worked at another school. Caroline loves showing her 19 month old Rottweiler, Yogi, and they both made it to Crufts Dog Show, coming 2nd in the junior dog class!
Nicola has a great passion for cooking and helping out in schools. In her free time Nicola loves going to concerts!
The Townsend Competition
This year's Townsend Project was a challenge to see how we can help feed our world, and what we can do to help find enough food for our growing population. The task was to produce something to show your thoughts on this concept. Pupils in the school were given a few ideas to get them thinking, including futuristic and innovative ways to feed the world whilst protecting the planet, or designing a food truck or greenhouse that could be taken to different communities. The list of options was endless!
This was a HOUSE COMPETITION and every entry received 2 points for their house.
Entries that were put through to the final received an additional 3 points for their house.
We have been really impressed with the entries and think that it must have been a very tough decision for the judges to choose a winner.
The winners of this years Townsend Competition were:
Form 1 - Aggie H and Tom D
Form 2 - Olivia S and Marnie H (joint project)
Form 3 - Chloe B and Sienna G (joint project) and Rufus S C, with Henry B highly recommended
Form 4 - Charlie WW with Ned L highly recommended
Form 5 Balthazar P with Arthur HR and Piper D highly recommended
Form 6 - Johnny E. Freddie B and Jake L
The overall winner will be announced soon! Watch this space.

The NFL was founded in 1920 in Canton, Ohio, as the American Professional football Association.
You play NFL by getting the ball across the goal line into the end zone. The other way to get points is by kicking the ball through the field goal posts for a field goal.
We are privileged to have two of our amazing teachers here at Cranleigh teach the amazing NFL club of which twenty two students participate in. We went to interview the NFL club and found a few interesting facts. They said that the brilliant thing about being in NFL club, is that you can run and have fun. Also, the coaches are the best and we it's great to try something new. All the members of NFL club said that you should join them because you get to play against other teams, and it feels amazing to be in such an brilliant club.
The NFL club have got high hopes, which include going to America by winning regionals, then wining nationals, and then if they win both of those, they go to America to represent England. Good luck team. We are cheering for you!
Why not be part of this adventure?

The Truth about Life in
Form 1
Brave and excited Form 1 pupils are just about to finish their first term at CPS and are doing so with lots of energy.
Earlier this term, The Buzz asked the Form 1 Writing Club to let us know how they were finding life in Form 1. The highlight was definitely their first residential trip, and other favourites included: Whole School Assembly, Fun Friday Maths and Swimming.
Read these with first-hand quotes to find out what they really think.
Zoe said: “I like the copse because I like nature and playing in the mud banks with my friends at break time.”
Alice said: “I like computing because you get to learn about the internet and how to stay safe.”
Emilia said: “You have really fun whole school assemblies where we discuss important issues, but also we have fun videos awards are handed out.”
Max said: “I really like Humanities, because History is my favourite lesson and it’s really fun.”
Geo and Rosie agree about Games which they enjoy “because on Thursday we get to play other teams and score goals.”
Ella said: “I love acro-dance which is an extra club, because we are learning to do cartwheels and hand stands and it’s really good fun!”

Children in Need
Children in Need believe that every child should have a chance to flourish and do the finest they can.
Children in Need are committed to being there for children across the UK, when they desire them the most! Together with the BBC and their partners, they inspire the nation to support their enterprising work.
At Cranleigh Prep the amazing Mr Perry (our art teacher) draws an incredible Pudsey Bear. We bring in spare coins to fill the giant Pudsey. Normally Mr Perry or some of the Form 6s have to draw a couple of balloons or something extra because there are always more coins left.
Here is a link to the website to find out more about how to fundraise.

On the 1st December Lower School shall be hosting the first whole school cake sale for this academic year. We are hoping that pupils in F1 and 2 will arrive at school with cakes and biscuits that will all have a Christmas in design for the school community to buy. All funds raised will be donated to the Lower School charity kids. 😀
We raised money and awareness by wearing Odd Socks.
Odd Socks Day is an annual event that encourages people to wear mismatched socks as a way of celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion. It is a light-hearted and symbolic gesture that serves as a reminder that being different is something to be proud of. It also promotes the notion that we should all be brave (adults and children alike) to be brave and stand up against bullying.
This term we have also raised money by having a cake sale run by the Lower School who raised funds for KIDS charity. They managed to raise a fantastic total of £232.47!
Pudsey Bear

The sailing trip was a blast, it was action packed with lots of fun, capsizing galore and tons of laughter!
It was an afternoon start on a Sunday at around 2:30pm with CPS. We had three mini-buses in total, one for all our kit and two for the pupils. We had about 2 hours to kill on that bus so we made the most of it, we sang to the radio and had a laugh all around. It still felt like ages though!
Once we got to Rockley Point, the site that everyone stays in, we met all the staff and instructors. Our dorms were amazing, each having three bunk beds so there was lots of space to move around. Soon after we had a Sunday roast dinner taking around 20 mins, so we still had a bit of free time, so we watched the rugby World Cup and saw the thrilling match of France Vs South Africa. But before we knew it, it was time for bed and it took a while for us to settle down but after that we slept like a rock; get it because we were in Rockley!
And before we knew it sailing day had arrived! There was an early wake up at around 7:00, then we had breakfast which was great. As soon as we were loaded up with our wetsuits, the CPS team headed down to the beach. The instructors gave us a quick debrief on what the day was going to look like. We got our soggy wetsuits fitted and finally we were out sailing on our trusty ‘laser picos’ and took to the seas. Once we were out at sea, we were towed to the cove where we landed to prepare our boats. However, it took a while since this was our first time. Soon though, we were off and sailing around in no time. It took a bit of time to get the hang learning new skills on the boat such as tacking which was turning around. The weather was cold, wet and miserable but we made the most of it by singing songs and laughing at Mr Stroud who was capsizing a lot! After a long morning it was lunch and we finally were warm, as well as getting chance to eat. We had a sandwich of our choice, some crisps, a biscuit and a fruit. We were warm and snug but not for long, before we knew it we were out on the water once more. It was even more fun this time seeing as we had more confidence in ourselves which made it a lot more enjoyable for everyone.
Once we rolled out of bed, we were ready for more tacking and more fun on our trusty Laser Picos.
That day we collected our RYA (Royal Yachting Association) sailor level 1 certificate. In the morning it was a lovely sail because the weather was finally on our side so there was a lot more laughter! I can't say the same thing about the afternoon however because while we were having lunch the weather decided to try and sink our boats but we managed to survive the storm and soon we were back in the changing rooms. We got in our dorms and after another amazing dinner we went to the lunch tent and we played a game of guess the song which was a game where a song played and the first person to sit on one of two chairs in the front had to guess the song and artist. The teams were “ Serge Dive on top” against “Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis” and "Serge Dive on top” won and after a long game we got back to our dorms and went to bed. The next day we had some of the best breakfast I've ever had and the final day of the sailing trip was here and we were all ready for some sailing but the instructors had other plans they said that it was too windy and rainy to sail so we got in some electric boats and just explored. We had a blast grabbing random things outside of the boat and just had a great time really. But that was only for the morning because to get the sailor level one you have to be able to do a figure of eight knot to we did. Also we all had a go at practising our knots, and tied Mr Stroud to a chair with meters of rope, while he tried to get out we had a game of multiple things like a plank off, best impression of an instructor and best sailing related joke. The winner of all of this would get the most resources to build a boat with and we raced after all of those shenanigans we went home and that concluded our sailing trip.
Here is Twiglet to explain all about it:

On the 13th of November we had one of the most important days of the year. It was Anti-bullying Week. In case you are not sure what bullying is, here's an explanation:
Bullying can be physical and mental.
It could also be spreading rumours, making threats and excluding people from a group. It's not only in real life but also online.
All the staff and all the pupils here at Cranleigh participated in Anti Bullying Week. This consisted of an odd sock day, which is a day to celebrate people being unique, and a whole school assembly to remind us of our values at Cran Prep. All of this was planned to prevent bullying here at Cranleigh, so we feel confident that it won’t go to waste.
If you're being bullied you can turn to the following people: Mrs Lewis, Matron, your Form Tutor, Anti-bullying Ambassadors, The Independent listener or a trusted adult.
Our clear message to all readers:
Make sure you don’t bully anyone else, and make sure you don’t let anyone bully you!

On Tuesday 31st October, two teams from Cranleigh Prep went over to Cranleigh Senior School to take part in a Vex Robotics competition. There were 6 schools that participated. We were given instructions on how to use the robotics and we were put into 2 groups. We were tasked with different challenges.
The first task was to code and design a robot that could push a pipe into place. The second task was designing and coding a robot that would hook onto a coloured object and move it onto the matching coloured platform. The final task was controlling a robot to move red and green rings and tripballs and sort them into different boxes. We went head to head against the other schools in our year.
It was really fun working in a team, against the clock to try and code everything and get your robot to do what you want. Vex robotics is really interesting and everybody should give it a go!
Movember Moustaches
Throughout November, you may have noticed that some of our teachers looked rather hairy! They participated in an act to raise awareness of men's health issues.
