Ms. McDonald's Weekly Video

First, WATCH Ms. McDonald's video featuring Virtual Ms. McDonald!

This week, Virtual Ms. McDonald asks you to sing. Follow her directions in the video! Happy music-making!

Additional Music Activities

Second, COMPLETE at least one additional music activity.

If you only have time for one additional activity, that's great; if you want to complete all of the additional activities for this week, that's awesome. Do what you can!

Choose one or two of these activities to explore throughout the week:

Take a look at the different types of percussion instruments that are used in the orchestra. If you were to play a percussion instrument, think about which one you would choose to play!

These percussion instruments are from all over the world. Can you see how some of these instruments resemble each other? Percussion instruments are played by hitting and scraping.

You can hit a percussion instrument three ways.

  1. You can hit the instrument with your hand or foot — such as congas, bongos, djembe, tabla, doumbeks, or cajons.
  2. You can hit the instrument with some kind of implement — such as a stick, beater, mallet. Snare drums, bass drums, triangles, xylophone, vibraphones, bells, chimes, and cowbells.
  3. You can hit the instrument with itself — like crash cymbals, claves, slap sticks, maracas, shakers, rattles, or rhythm sticks.

Here’s a fun video and activity that you can do at home! You can create your own percussion instruments using things that you can find in your house! You can make maracas, a rain stick, a tambourine, and a drum! You might need a parent or an older brother/sister to help you.

Happy exploring!
