My family at Black Canyon National Park
Good day! I'm excited to have you visit my classroom website. My name is Ryan Osmotherly and most of my students call me Mr. O . I have been teaching Science/Health here at Crawford for 14 years and I have enjoyed it very much. Crawford is my hometown and I never imagined that I would be back here teaching in the same classroom that I once sat in as a student, but here I am, and I'm very thankful to be here.
I have a wonderful family with my wife Michelle and two daughters, Peyton (5th grade) and Kylee (3rd grade). I also get to work with my mom, Mrs. O, and dad, Ozzo, here at the school.
My hobbies include just about anything outdoors. I love to golf, hike, and travel. This past summer we took our family to Orlando, Florida to experience Universal Studios Resorts. We also took a mini vacation to Colorado where we rode horses, hiked, and even went sledding down some sand dunes. It was an excellent summer, but I am ready to be back! I love teaching all of my students.
Finally, as you scroll down this page, you will see many of the various labs/activities that we conduct throughout the year. In science, we are constantly questioning different phenomona, and we can usually find creative ways to test our hypotheses. I figured it would be fun for you to see what's going on. I hope you enjoy the photos of our students DOING science.
The 7th grade class recently tested the phenomona of diffusion and osmosis in science class. They used vinegar to dissolve the egg's shell and then chose different solutions to place their eggs into, in order to see which substances would diffuse across the membrane. They massed out their eggs each day and compared their results to see which substances could move into or out of the egg.
The Biology students tested to see whether iodine or starch molecules could pass pass through dialysis tubing. They were comparing and contrasting different types of membrane transport and also testing the effect of hypertonic and hypotonic solutions on osmosis.
Mr. Keim and I took our Earth Science and Biology classes on a hike up Black Elk Peak (Harney) last spring.
