We had a fun and creative year in the art room! Students spent time exploring the elements of art—like line, shape, color, and texture—through many exciting projects.
They also worked on growing their creativity, trying new ideas, making choices in their artwork, and thinking like real artists. Everyone had a chance to use their imagination and express themselves in unique ways.
Along the way, students learned new art skills, such as how to use different tools and materials, follow steps, and take care with their work. We also looked at art from different cultures and famous artists to inspire our own creations.
It’s been wonderful to see how much everyone has grown as artists this year. I’m proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see their creativity continue to shine!
We had a blast this month in P.E. All specialist worked together and made camping day for the students super fun.
Mr. Ray had pretend cooking and fishing.
Mrs. Crabtree and Ms. Kayla and Dr. McCullar ran the fire safety and smores station.
Mr. Allen had students experience outside art.
Mrs. Renzi help us out with timing each station and keeping us on schedule.
Coach B ran the tents outside and the students were able to experience different size and shape tents.
Benton is such a great place to BEE!!!!!
5th Grade was hard at work in April on their Video Game Music projects. We learned about the history of video game music and video game composers, and used our composing skills learned throughout the year to create a song for our very own video game, which the students are also building in Media.
4th Grade has spent April learning about Hip Hop. We studied Hip Hop history and read books about DJ Kool Herc and other early hip hop artists. Students were able to build their own hip hop backing tracking using digital composing software, and after learning about rapping cadence and practicing speaking those cadences at different speeds, chose a rhythming book to rap over their created track.
3rd grade embarked on a new instrument journey in April- ocarinas! These “clay flutes” are new to Benton, and third graders have been learning how to play them using proper posture, embouchure, and breath support. We have mastered two notes, and are still learning more!
2nd grade has been working on purposeful movement with dances like La Raspa, as well as playing simple and complex rhythms to popular songs. Ask them about the song Crab Rave!
1st Grade continues mastering their knowledge of ta, ti-ti, and quarter rest through playing instruments, body percussion, and movement.
Kindergarten continues to explore loud and soft, high and low, and discovering their singing voice. We took a trip to the sea and practiced our musical skills and movement with songs like The Ship and A Pirates Jig.
Happy almost Summer Break!
In Counseling, we just finished our last unit: Summer Safety and Transition. Students reviewed the 8 Never, Never Rules, and Ways to Stay Safe: Recognize, Refuse, Report, as a reminder on how to have a safe and fun Summer. Students also share feedback on rules they have when staying home alone, being online, or playing outside with friends.
Please ask your child what rules they know that keep them safe. Have a healthy and happy Summer!
May has been busy with trying to wrangle all the library books back to the library! Never leave a stone unturned!
We also returned our iPads and boxed some of them up for summer school.
In the makerspace, we had a rotation of robot exploration. The robots we used were Sphereos, Sphereo Indis, mBots, Dashes, LittleBits, and Cubelets. This is always a fun end-of-year makerspace.
Daniel Boone Regional Library always has a fun summer reading challenge. Don't forget to put your nose in a book now and then over the summer!
As always, please fill out this form if you'd like to share something unique about your student on our hallway projector screen!
In media this month students had the opportunity to create cool creations in Minecraft.
In celebration of Camping Day, students in K-4th grade were able to create their very own campsite. They made a tent/cabin, a fire pit, and some even added a pool or an area for their pets.
5th grade started a special project, they were tasked with creating their very own Minecraft maze where they could add mobs, traps, and other obstacles to deter the person going through it.
