The Litwin School Counseling Program is a comprehensive, developmental program designed to support the academic, social, emotional, and future career development of all students. Grounded in a student-centered approach, the program is an integral part of the overall educational experience, fostering a safe and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
How can a School Counselor help?
Academic Support: The counseling program collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to help students achieve academic success. This includes goal setting, organizational skills, and overcoming learning challenges. Counselors also assist in identifying and addressing any barriers to learning.
Social and Emotional Development: Through individual and group counseling sessions, classroom lessons, and school-wide initiatives, the program focuses on enhancing students' emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills. Counselors help students navigate challenges such as peer relationships, conflict resolution, and stress management, promoting a positive and healthy school climate.
Crisis Intervention: The program provides immediate support during crises, ensuring that students receive the care and guidance they need during difficult times. Counselors work closely with school staff, families, and community resources to address issues such as bullying, grief, and family transitions.
Career Awareness: Even at the elementary level, the program introduces students, particularly in Grade 5, to the concept of career exploration. Through activities and discussions, students begin to understand the relationship between their education and future opportunities.
Parent and Community Collaboration: The counseling program actively involves parents and guardians in the educational process, offering resources and regular communication to support students' development. Additionally, counselors connect families with community services that can provide further assistance.
