The number one expectation for summer reading is that you enjoy what you read!
Remember that CHOICE will help you make your reading enjoyable. Be sure to choose books, genres, authors, and formats that you know you like.
You have a a reading menu to complete for both July and August with fun reading activities that you can do individually or with others!
For each month, there are 35 squares that describe different reading habits and activities. You need to cross out 30 of the 35 reading habits. You can choose which ones you do!
You are expected to read for 100 minutes a week.
You can choose how you split up the 100 minutes each week! Two suggestions are:
Read for 20 minutes 5 days a week
Read for about 15 minutes 7 days a week
Reading for at least 100 minutes a week will help to ensure that you are ready to jump right into your ELA class in September!
The Summer Reading Menus give you choice in how you complete your summer reading. You have a menu to complete for July and one for August.
You will receive a copy of the reading menus when you get your Summer Reading Books.
If you would like to fill this out digitally, you can do that making a copy and then using Kami.
If you need to reprint your reading menus, simply click on the image above to open the PDF to print.
You will turn in your completed reading menus to your ELA teacher in September.
Some readers like to keep a list of the books that they have completed. You will receive a copy of the Books Completed Chart when you get your Summer Reading Books.
This chart is optional - you do not have to complete it, but it is available to you if you want it!
It can be helpful to keep a list of the books that you want to read. Often, we hear about books that we want to read, but then we forget about them.
You can use this chart to record books you want to read. That way, once you finish a book, you can just look at this list and find your next one!
This chart is optional - you do not have to complete it, but it is available to you if you want it!
