Program Overview
The summer reading program empowers students to select one book (yes, that is right, one book) of their choice from a list of forty-six titles. Students can select works from Stephen King to Eckhart Tolle to J.K Rowling to Jodi Picoult. To support students with their reading, they will be required to maintain a reading log during reading. This reading log will be used as their summer reading assessment, but more importantly, as a guide to prepare them for their book discussion. While staff members will facilitate the summer reading book talks, students are highly encouraged to fully participate and drive much of the discussion.
Important Reminders!
Summer reading presentations will begin the week of March 27th in all English classes. Students are required to make their choices through the Summer Reading Google Classroom no later than Friday, April 21st.
Students can access their book on a first-come, first-serve basis through the Booth and Dimock Memorial Library over the summer months. Please note that book selections vary on interest, reading level, and topics; some titles are intended for mature readers only. Please engage in a dialogue with your student regarding his/her summer reading selection and address any concerns you may have with his/her selection.
If you have any questions regarding the summer reading program, please do not hesitate to contact the English Department Chair, Christine Kendall at ckendall@coventryct.org.
