English 9 Honors challenges astute freshmen to raise the level of their study of all literary genres by promoting more intense analytical and critical thinking and writing. Students will examine classic works of literature, both short and full length, from a variety of time periods. They will emulate writing styles, write creative pieces, keep literary response journals and participate in literature circles. Students will model Regents and AP style essays in preparation for both these future tests. Students will practice speaking skills through individual and group presentations. An advanced vocabulary program will help prepare students for PSAT and SAT exams. Finally, students will complete an extensive research project based on their literary experiences.
