English 9 will provide students with essential written and verbal skills needed for the Next Generation ELA Learning Standards and assessments such as the English Language Arts Regents, which they will take in their junior year. A variety of resources, including The Writing Revolution, will be reviewed to improve grammar and usage skills. In addition to reading and analyzing poetry, short stories, and short non-fiction pieces, students will study full-length works by Homer, Shakespeare, Harper Lee, Laurence Yep, and Barb Palser. Students will be expected to write an MLA-style research paper and make use of several databases to research information. This course aims to prepare students for both college and the workforce.
Requirements: Local Final Exam in June
