Our classroom is running low on index cards. Students, especially in the primary grades, use index cards to make flashcards so they can review the vocabulary at home. 3x5 or 4x6 index cards would be appreciated.

In late February we will be creating Mardi Gras masks and "floats" in grades K-3. If you would like to volunteer to spend a class period helping students with their creations, please reach out to me.
Thursday, March 6 will be Murray's World Language Night. We will need parent and student volunteers to help us set up, run activity tables, and clean up. Again, please reach out to me if you're interested in helping the world language team.
In Kindergarten we are building our ear for the French language. For the 3rd quarter, students will continue to review topics like greetings, introductions, colors, numbers, body parts, days of the week. We will also introduce some new topics like family members and school supplies.
In the 3rd quarter, French scholars will demonstrate their mastery of the numbers 1-20 through and assessment and then move on to learning how to state preferences about fruits and vegetables along with a few other foods.
2nd grade French scholars will spend the 3rd quarter learning about clothing and how to discuss where things are located using prepositional phrases.
3rd grade scholars will continue to discuss their family members and will create a family tree giving some basic information about each person. They will then begin to learn how to express different feelings and sensations.
Students will be able to:
introduce themselves and talk about their activities.
interview others about their family and their activities.
tell which means of transport they use to go to school.
say what they put in their suitcase to go on a trip.
Students will be able to:
identify some European countries and cities.
talk about their weekly activities.
describe the physical traits of a person.

6th grade is about to conclude their studies of food and recipe preparation. Their culminating project is an instructional video on how to follow a recipe and make a dish. We'll then move onto the next unit:

This unit deals with the theme of vacation. Students learn vocabulary to help them describe a landscape, plan a vacation, and understand an invitation. They also learn to identify seasons and months of the year, describing characteristics of each, along with telling one’s date of birth.
Proficiency Level: Novice Mid-High
This unit is an introduction to French language basics. Students will learn to greet others and introduce themselves using appropriate gestures. They will also learn expressions of courtesy, how to count to 60, They will be introduced to the French alphabet and some basic rules of pronunciation. They will also learn to identify people and things in the classroom and to describe themselves and others. They will also learn about the Francophone world.
In this unit, students will learn:
to greet people, introduce themselves, and say farewell
to use expressions of courtesy
to pronounce the French alphabet and spell words in French
functional phrases for making introductions and speaking on the phone
culturally appropriate terms, gestures, and customs for greetings and farewells in France and in other Francophone countries

Bonjour à tous! Je m'appelle Madame Korpalski.
Hello to all! My name is Madame Korpalski. I am currently in my 13th year teaching at Murray Language Academy (WHAT!). I previously taught at Infinity Math, Science, and Technology High School in Little Village.
I grew up in Chicago and attended CPS schools K-12, and graduated from Lane Tech. I earned my bachelor's degrees in French and International Business from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL and my Masters in Community and Teacher Leaders from Northeastern Illinois University.
I love to travel, and so far I have visited 27 countries including the French-speaking countries of France, Monaco, Belgium, Morocco, Senegal, and Canada. I try to impart my passion for French and geography to my students.
